Situated within the UNSW Health Translation Hub, Hub Eatery was created to serve a diverse community of clinicians, researchers, students and healthcare professionals. The venue balances the demands of a fast-paced environment with the comfort and familiarity of a neighbourhood café, providing a space that feels welcoming from the moment guests arrive.
Design Approach
The fit-out was guided by the concept of "The Precinct Pantry", creating a warm and welcoming space within a fast-paced environment. A central service counter, inspired by the kitchen island of a home, supports efficient service while encouraging connection. Open shelving, natural timber finishes, earthy tones and integrated greenery reinforce a sense of authenticity and comfort. Flexible seating caters to both quick visits and longer stays, while dedicated quiet zones provide space for study, informal meetings and downtime. The result is a hospitality environment that balances operational efficiency with genuine warmth, creating a familiar gathering place at the heart of the precinct.
Hub Eatery demonstrates how thoughtful hospitality design can balance efficiency with comfort. Through warm, residential-inspired interiors, intuitive customer flow and flexible seating, the fit-out creates a welcoming destination within a busy healthcare and research precinct. The result is a reliable gathering place where students, professionals and visitors can pause, recharge and connect throughout the day.
